European Arnica, Arnica montana, is the official species bing the the basis for many homeopathic remedies, salves etc. Traditional European folk use of flowers as a poultice to relieve pain and reduce inflammation of of sprains and bruises. Also known as Leopardsbane and Mountain Tobacco. European Arnica is indigenous to Europe and Canada. An alpine plant, it prefers peaty loams in a cool, shady position. Produces aromatic yellow flower heads in spring and summer. Frost resistant but drought tender. A perennial plant, growing to 0.6m x 0.6m. Suitable only for cultivation at altitude
