Alocasia Pseudo Sanderiana Pink Variegata

Alocasia sp.

Alocasia pseudo-sanderiana pink combines sculptural foliage with soft pink variegation. Its deeply lobed leaves give it an architectural look, while each new leaf reveals a different pattern.

The name “Pseudo Sanderiana” reflects its resemblance to Alocasia sanderiana, a separately recognised species. However, it’s a name used in the plant trade rather than a confirmed botanical species name. Like other Alocasia, it belongs to the aroid family, whose flowers have a central spike called a spadix and a surrounding bract called a spathe.

What makes Alocasia Pseudo Sanderiana Pink special?

The foliage is the star. Long, arrow-shaped leaves develop wavy, deeply cut edges, creating a silhouette that stands out among broader-leaved indoor plants. Additionally, pink patches and green tones add another layer of interest.

Variegation varies from plant to plant and leaf to leaf. For example, some leaves may show pinker than others, so enjoy each one as it unfurls. Furthermore, the amount and placement of colour can change as the plant grows.

For a contrasting display, pair it with Alocasia ‘Dragon Scale’ White Variegated. While Dragon Scale features highly textured leaves, its compact foliage complements the longer, more sculptural leaves of this plant.

Growing Alocasia Pseudo Sanderiana Pink

For best results, place it in a warm spot with bright, indirect light. However, protect the leaves from harsh direct sun, which can scorch their delicate variegated areas. Depending on your climate, a bright room or sheltered patio can suit the plant.

Use a chunky, well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes. When the top layer of the mix begins to dry, water thoroughly and then let the excess drain away. Meanwhile, avoid leaving the pot sitting in water.

Alocasia Pseudo-Sanderiana ‘Pink’ appreciates warmth and moderate to high humidity. Therefore, keep it away from cold draughts and protect it from frost. Growth may slow in cooler weather, so check the potting mix before watering again.

During active growth, feed lightly with a product such as Aroid Plant Food, following the label directions. Additionally, gently wipe the leaves to remove dust and check regularly for pests.

Please note: Keep this ornamental plant away from children and pets. Because aroids contain calcium oxalate crystals, they can irritate the mouth and throat if chewed or eaten.
