Botanically named Alocasia reginula ‘Black Velvet’ Aurea Variegated, this rare selection adds unpredictable yellow, lime, and golden markings to the familiar Black Velvet Alocasia. For example, one leaf may have a bold sector. Meanwhile, the next might show marbling, flecks, or a softer wash of colour.

The foliage is thick, rounded and almost black-green, with a plush surface and prominent pale veins. Additionally, aurea variegation appears especially luminous against this dark foundation. As a result, its compact growth gives the plant presence without requiring the space of a large Alocasia. Therefore, it suits shelves, plant cabinets, and indoor collections.

Alocasia reginula comes from Borneo and belongs to the group called jewel Alocasias, plants admired for intricate foliage rather than size. Consequently, ‘Black Velvet’ became a collector favourite for its dramatic leaves. Moreover, the aurea-variegated form adds extra rarity and individuality.
