Alocasia ‘Polly’ Aurea Variegata brings golden splashes to one of the most recognisable Alocasia cultivars. Its parent, Alocasia ‘Polly’, began as a compact selection found at Silver Krome Gardens in Florida. That smaller growth habit made ‘Polly’ a favourite in indoor collections.

This aurea-variegated form adds another reason to take a closer look. Yellow or golden markings interrupt the deep green foliage, making each new leaf a little different.

What makes Alocasia ‘Polly’ Aurea Variegata special?

The dramatic leaves have an arrowhead shape, pronounced edges and pale veins. Their sculptural form gives the plant plenty of presence while keeping it relatively compact.

The golden variegation creates an extra layer of contrast. It may appear as patches, splashes or marbling across the foliage. Patterns vary from leaf to leaf and plant to plant, so no two specimens will look exactly alike.

Growing Alocasia ‘Polly’ Aurea Variegata

Choose a warm position with bright, indirect light. Protect the leaves from harsh direct sun, which can scorch the foliage. A spot near a bright window, with the light filtered through a curtain, works well.

Use a free-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage holes. Water when the top few centimetres of the mix feel dry, letting excess water drain away. Keep the mix lightly moist but avoid leaving the roots sitting in water.

‘Polly’ appreciates humidity and protection from cold draughts. Growth may slow during cooler months, so check the mix before watering and adjust as needed.
