American Paw Paw plant, Asimina triloba, is a member of the Custard Apple family that may be grown in temperate to cold climates. The fruit is yellowish, about 7 cm long, fragrant and tastes like banana custard – consumed fresh, but is sometimes used in baking. American Paw Paw plant is native to North America and requires rich, moist soils in an open, sunny position. Frost resistant but drought tender. A deciduous tree growing to 6m x 4m. Fruit is ripe in autumn.
Scarification: Soak in water for 48 – 72 hours
Stratification: cold stratify for 90 days
Germination: sow 2-3cm deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
