Lemon Myrtle plant, Backhousia citriodora, is also known as Sweet Verbean Tree and Lemon Ironwood. Ideal as hedge and windbreak. The aromatic leaves are used as a flavouring for tea and sauces. Rich in Vitamin C. Traditional Aboriginal folk use of the leaves as a remedy for arthritis. Citral, the essential oil, is used in perfume and as a food flavouring. Excellent in pot pouri. Lemon Myrtle plant is a native of Qld and prefers medium to heavy soils in a well drained, protected position. Flowers are white and appear from spring to summer. Drought and frost tender. An evergreen tree, growing to 15m x 5m.
