Soil and Microbe Booster

The Soil and Microbe Booster brings beneficial microbes, organic matter, and lasting vitality to potting mixes, garden beds, and compost. As a result, your plants receive essential support from the very start.

Outdoor soil naturally teems with fungi, bacteria, worms, and insects. In contrast, potting mix usually starts with bark and coir but has little biological activity.

This unique amendment combines Australian black soldier fly frass with Australian biochar. Specifically, frass contains insect manure and shed exoskeletons collected from insects farmed on food waste. As a result, it adds living microbes and organic matter to the growing medium.

The porous biochar holds water and nutrients near the roots. Furthermore, it also creates a protected habitat where beneficial microbes can establish and thrive. Together, these ingredients help the mix retain and gradually deliver the nutrients you provide.

As microbes break down the organic matter, they release nutrients over several weeks. The blend also contains 2.1% nitrogen, 0.8% phosphorus, and 1.1% potassium. It also supplies trace amounts of iron, copper, zinc, and manganese.

The formula remains deliberately mild. Although it improves the soil environment, it does not replace your usual plant food. Therefore, continue feeding your plants as normal.

Frass also contains chitin from insect exoskeletons. As a result, this natural component makes frass particularly valuable beyond its nutrient content.

At repotting, mix one heaped tablespoon through each litre of fresh potting mix. This equals roughly 5% of the total volume. Alternatively, you can increase the rate to 10% for tired mixes or large planters.

Between repots, work one tablespoon into the top 2cm of mix for every 15cm of pot diameter. Afterwards, apply once or twice each year, then water well.

For garden beds, use 1–1.5 litres per square metre. Similarly, mix 5% through compost heaps, seed-raising mixes, or planting backfill. However, never exceed 5% when preparing mix for seedlings and cuttings.

The Soil and Microbe Booster uses two Australian by-products and is blended in Melbourne. Importantly, no material is grown, mined, or manufactured specifically to create the frass.

Allow pots to dry appropriately between waterings, as consistently damp organic matter can attract fungus gnats. Also, store the booster sealed, dry, and out of direct sunlight. For convenience, choose a 500ml jar or economical 3L pouch for year-round soil support.
