Siam Queen Basil Seeds grow Ocimum basilicum ‘Siam Queen’, a Thai basil cultivar with a distinctive sweet anise and liquorice fragrance. Common names include Siam Queen Basil, Thai Basil ‘Siam Queen’, Siam Queen Thai Basil, Thai Basil, and Tropical Basil.
This bushy herb brings flavour and beauty to kitchen gardens. Moreover, generous green leaves contrast with purple flower clusters, making it attractive in pots and edible borders. Under favourable conditions, plants can reach about 50–60 cm tall.
Thai basil holds a valued place in Southeast Asian cooking, particularly in Thai and Vietnamese kitchens. Additionally, ‘Siam Queen’ builds on that culinary tradition with large leaves, strong fragrance and an attractive growing habit.
The cultivar earned an All-America Selections award in 1997. Its relatively late flowering also gives gardeners more time to enjoy leafy growth before flower production takes over.
For anyone who loves cooking from the garden, this basil offers something beyond familiar sweet basil. As a result, its distinctive flavour brings another dimension to everyday meals.
Add freshly picked leaves to Thai curries, noodle soups, stir-fries and rice dishes. Alternatively, scatter them over meals just before serving to enjoy their fragrance.
Try torn leaves in fresh rice-paper rolls, herb salads or dressings. Similarly, a few sprigs also make a fragrant garnish for chilled drinks.
Create a Southeast Asian cooking collection alongside our Green Lemongrass Plant and Thai Chilli seeds. Together, these ingredients offer plenty of inspiration for meals with fresh garden flavour. In summary, growing Siam Queen Basil alongside these companions elevates your culinary experience.
To begin, sow shallowly in seed-raising mix and keep evenly moist until germination. Provide warmth, ideally above 20°C, and move seedlings outdoors once the frost risk has passed.
Next, choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly, especially in containers, without waterlogging the roots.
