Winter Savoury (Satureja montana) is a digestive aid and food flavouring. A traditional salad herb, the leaves are also used as a remedy for bronchitis and intestinal gas. Crushed leaves are used as a poultice to treat bee stings. Winter Savoury is a native of southern Europe. and prefers poor, stony, well-drained soils in an open, sunny position. Pale purple flowers occur in clusters in summer. Frost-resistant but drought-tender. A perennial plant, growing to 0.3m x 0.5m.
